Sri Lanka Recognises Separate Tamil State

Sri Lankan Police have forced hundreds of the minority Tamil community out of the capital Colombo to the North and East of Sri Lanka for what the Tamils say as their TamilEelam home land.

Police launched overnight raids in Tamil areas of the city and forced more than 500 guests staying in budget hotels onto buses. They said that Tamils who were in the capital were made to board buses bound for the north and east of the island.

Remaining persons in lodges, irrespective of their travel and other needs, were told they would be arrested if they failed to vacate the lodges within 3 days. All the lodge owners were instructed not to lodge people for more than 3 days.

Sri Lankan Government Spokesman and the SL minister, Keheliya Rambukwelle, in Sri Lankan Parliament Thursday said that the Tamils from Colombo lodges had "voluntarily come forward to be sent out of Colombo," and that the GoSL was transporting them "free of charge."

R. Sampanthan, the Parliamentary Group Leader of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) charged that the Police had expelled Tamils in a "gruesome manner treating the lodgers like animals."

Tamil Separatists consider the forced expulsions of their people from the state of Sri Lanka to TamilEelam State as recognition of the reality of the existence of a separate Tamil State.

Previously, in 1958, 1977 and in 1983 thousands of Tamils were ethnically cleansed from the southern Sri Lanka and sent in ships to north and east of Sri Lanka as refugees. India helped Sri Lanka in transporting the ethnic Tamil to their Tamil homeland in the previous ethnic cleansing periods. As the international community and the International Eminent Persons keep their eyes wide shut, yet again Tamils are expelled from the lawless state of Sri Lanka to their own homeland, Tamileelam recognizing it as a defacto seperate state.
