Channel 4 suspect released
August 2, 2011 // Comments OffA Bristish citizen charged with aiding and abetting Channel-4 make the controversial documentary on Sri Lanka which was aired recently intended to insult the armed force and the state was released after the court stated that the suspect was not involved in with the movie.
When the matter was taken up for inquiry before the Colombo Chief Magistrate Rashmi Singappuli, the CID filing a report in court submitted that the suspect Kandawanam Jethiswaran who was arrested in Kandy on July 4 who was alleged to have been involved in the Channel 4 incident, was not involved in the incident.
The CID said that on viewing a CD that was recovered from the custody of the suspect it had revealed that that no suspicious material or evidence was found from the suspect and moved to release him.
The suspect who is a British Citizen was arrested in Kandy on July 4 under the emergency regulations and detained by the CID on an information given by Mohamed Azhar, a resident of Flower Road, Colombo 7 to the CID.
Counsel Krishmal Warnasooriya instructed by Mohan Balendra appeared for the suspect.
