The Post Master General (PMG) who is now being investigated over several allegations had, in 2009, violated the policy on issuing stamps and printed a stamp despite advice by President Mahinda Rajapaksa not to do so.

Post Master General D.M.K. Dissanayake was recently suspended from service after postal unions demanded an investigation into his alleged activities.

News has now learnt that the Post Master General had, in 2009, issued a commemorative stamp on behalf of an evangelical preacher despite clear instructions by President Mahinda Rajapaksa not to do so.

Sources said that 3200 stamps were printed and later sold to the evangelical group headed by late Professor S. Rajendran for Rs 200,000.

When contacted, the Philatelic Bureau Director General Channa Silva confirmed that the stamp was issued by the Philatelic Bureau in 2009.

Some Buddhist organizations had in 2008 objected to the issuing of the 40 x 25mm stamp to commemorate the personal life of the late Professor Rajendran and following the objections President Mahinda Rajapaksa had also advised against the stamp being released.
